System Overview
Closed Circuit Television Systems are
locally managed video systems designed to monitor key areas of a facility.
These systems can be overt (in the open) or covert (hidden).
The basic components of a closed circuit
television system consists of cameras, lens, mounts, and head end control
equipment (monitor, time lapse recorder, switcher, multiplexer, matrix switcher).

The systems can be
either color or monochrome (black & white), and can consist of fixed
cameras, pan tilt zoom cameras or a combination of both.

The head end equipment typically consists
of a monitor, recorder, and video multiplexer. The video multiplexer allows for
multiple video signals to be recorded on a single VCR. A library of tapes is
maintained and reviewed in the event of an incident.

These systems are
typically used for monitoring key entry / exit points into a facility, parking
lot areas, shipping and receiving areas, engineering labs, production areas and
other critical areas through out a facility.
Video systems are often
used in conjunction with access control systems. They are helpful in
detecting tailgating (following an authorized user through an entry point).
